The couples album is considered the main album. Often as gifts for parents the couple will add a complimentary album that is an exact duplicate of their own. Because of design and size ratios main albums can only have complimentary albums in the corresponding sizes listed below.
If you want a complimentary album to have a separate design, such as different family formals or photos there is a $199 design fee per additional album.
Clients have a hard time deciding what photos to include in their album. My advice: be ruthless. If you can't be ruthless when choosing select a variety and let me have creative control to decide what makes the final cut! I know it's hard but try not to get caught up in wanting to include photos "just because you like them." Choose images that truly help tell the story of your day. 50 years from now you will want to talk about the small details and why you chose them such as invites, rings, florals or jewelry. If you have a gown you will want to remember the details of the lace and who helped you get dressed.
For ceremony I suggest including the top 3 favorites and maybe some candids. When it comes to wedding party a large group shot and one from each side is generally adequate. If you want more in this section I suggest photos of you with the maid of honor or best man. Include the larger family formals so you don't have to repeat often in this section to make sure you got everyone. For the portraits of the couple I suggest you choose the most here. These are the timeless images you will want to show off to the next generation of people in your life. When it comes to the celebration show images with candids, dancing and people having fun. Photos of entrances and speeches are rarely flattering so they aren't always necessary.
Try to stick to all color or black and white when selecting photos from a portion of the day, mixing the two on a page can sometimes be sloppy. Each spread will be different and only has a certain number of layout options based on the number of horizontal and vertical images. Sometimes it will make a better design to loose and image, or gain one, for specific points of the day. Allowing me to have a little creative control to what makes the final design usually results in the most cohesive and flawless design!
Below are images of albums that were created to show you different design aspects. The main things I want you to observe are that when you put less images on a page/spread the photos have more space to breathe and look lighter and more professional. Placing too many images on a spread can cause the eye to be forced to jump to too many places. When you get your preview of the design the seam on a spread will feel very visible. Below you will see photos with the seam running through faces (I would never let you do this for your personal album!) and through other images to get a true feel for what it looks like in person. I purposefully did not light these images or make them "fancy" so that I can show you what an album looks like in real light vs professional marketing images. I do feel the colors are much more rich and true in person but to show the seams I kept it very simple! These images were taken at Bonnet directly under can lights in the ceilings in the cocktail hour space. You can see the glare from the lights in all the photos, they are not as visible in person!
